Music: Michelle Branch, Hopeless Romantic

There is an amazing trend of talented musicians finally breaking through the restraints of terrible music label management. JoJo was set free last year with Mad Love and Nelly Furtado will fly like a bird again this March with The Ride. After years of drama with Warner Brothers, Michelle Branch will finally be set to release new music with label, Verve of Universal Music Group on April 7th.

Thanks to my friend Shaunté Snipes at UMG, I was lucky enough to get a sneak peek of Michelle’s new album, Hopeless Romantic at the Bowery Electric. The set list featured a long list of laid-back songs packed with personal lyrics inspired by her divorce and budding romance with Black Keys’ drummer Patrick Carney. My favorite song was Faultline, which features a dreamlike melody with lyrics of that feeling you get when you think you have found the one only to realize it was all a façade.

Michelle Branch closed the show with her classic Are You Happy Now? naturally making the audience’s inner teenager eagerly sing along, myself included. After the show wrapped, Michelle insisted everyone grab a drink (or a few) with her down the street at a very cozy bar, Lovers of Today. I’m happy to say I can now check grabbing a casual drink with Michelle Branch off my bucket list. What a night... now mark your calendars for dreamy music on April 7th!
