It has been six years since Harry Potter defeated Voldemort
and his Death Eater following. While J.K. Rowling has released a stream of short stories
and Fantastic Beasts to keep the magic alive, there was still a magical void that
needed to be filled. NBC Univeral's Network Syfy accepted that challenge last year with the release of The Magicians. Thankfully instead of creating a tacky imitation of Harry Potter or related
young adult novels, they forged an intoxicating storyline tailored for adults
still seeking a little imagination. Think American Horror Story Coven meets Narnia. Instead of a castle in England, these
students will learn magic in an alternate realm held in the center of Brooklyn.
Brakebills University isn’t full of brooding teenagers, instead this is a graduate
level education in all things magic. Meaning this school is full of drinking,
sex, and even death. There is also a magical world from Protagonist, Quentin’s
favorite childhood books that poses a danger to humanity.
Season one was mostly focused on the introduction of each main character and the
dark plot to viewers. Season two has arrived this past month and will continue to cover the
battle against evil as it evolves. In celebration of launching season two, Syfy opened a Hall of Magic in Brooklyn. They created a long hall full of rooms with many different themes intended
to immerse you in a world full of magic. Below is a list of my favorite rooms:
The Room of
Divination: This room was full of herbs and crystals to help you
connect to the spirit world for guidance. There was a woman in the room offering tarot card readings. I drew the 5 of Swords as she explained that I’m a warrior that
fights victoriously for what I believe in.
The Room of
Levitation: Everyone who entered this room gained the ability to defy
gravity and levitate their entire body.
The Room of Telekinesis:
When entering this room you gain the ability to move objects with your mind
through the extension of your arm and hand.
The Room of
Astrology: While laying on the grass floor, you become one with the
stars and extend your spirit to the constellation in the sky.
The Room of
Knowledge: This is where students can learn new spells and further
harness their telekinetic powers.
The Door to Fillory:
While you are unable to enter Fillory, you may take a peek into the magical world that holds
so much darkness.
Tune into Syfy’s The Magicians on Wednesdays at 9/8C.
All of their training comes down to this one moment. The battle begins on an all-new episode of The Magicians, Wednesday at 9/8c on Syfy.
